Sharing Burdens, Spreading Hope with New Moms
Ninety-seven percent of the young families that come to New Moms are experiencing extreme poverty and want to write a new story for their future. New Moms partners with these young mothers and their kids in a “2-Generation” approach that provides housing, job training, and parenting support and puts moms in the driver’s seat as they construct the foundation for their family’s well-being.
Grace member Heidi Hamernik, a child psychologist, tells how new mothers need support and describes Grace Church's involvement with New Moms. For another perspecitve on New Moms' impact on young mothers, watch the story of Destiny and Amir.
Because of COVID-19, many of the young mothers served by New Moms are dealing with potential or actual unemployment, the loss of vital social services, and lack of healthcare support if they get sick. Most do not have a robust social safety net; many have experienced homelessness.
