Visit

In the name of Jesus Christ, we welcome you!

As God welcomes all people through the saving grace of Jesus, so do we seek to welcome God’s people of all races, social statuses, physical and mental abilities, sexual orientations, and gender identities to be together in Christ – to love, to grow, and to serve here at Grace Church.

Whether you are looking for a church home, or just planning a Sunday visit, we pray that our ministry at Grace helps you to know and believe that God is calling you to new life in Jesus Christ. Join us for worship, fellowship, and service as we live out our calling to be faithful disciples.

Worship on Sundays, 8:30 and 11am

Worship is at the center of our life together as God’s people at Grace Lutheran Church.  Each Sunday morning:

  • We gather in the name of the Triune God.
  • We hear God’s word.
  • We share Christ’s meal.
  • We are sent out to the world to serve.

We use traditional liturgies at Grace. We strive to honor God with excellence in preaching and music, while remembering that worship is fundamentally about God’s saving work for us.

Holy Communion

The sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated at both services every Sunday morning at Grace. We welcome all baptized Christians to the communion table where Christ is host.

Parking

Street parking is available along Division Street and Bonnie Brae. Read signs carefully — there are some restrictions depending on the day of the week. Evening and weekend parking is available in Concordia University's parking garage, just south of Grace, and in the spaces marked "Concordia" in the park district lot on the north side of Division Street.

Accessibility

  • Handicapped parking is available on Sunday mornings along the west side of Bonnie Brae and on the south side of Division.
  • The sanctuary is accessible through the main building entrance on Bonnie Brae and from the door on Division Street near the alley.
  • Fellowship Hall, site of meals and receptions,  is accessible from the Division Street door and by going through the sanctuary.
  • There is an elevator for access to other parts of the building.

If you are not certain how to avoid stairs as you move through the building, please ask at the reception desk.

Children in worship

Children of all ages are welcome at our worship services. We understand that small children need to wiggle and whisper and that happy babies sometimes make happy sounds. If you need to leave the service with a restless child, you’ll find comfortable places to sit and room for toddlers to run in the church atrium, where parents can still hear the service over the sound system.

Children’s sermon. On most Sundays children are invited forward midway through the service to sit on the chancel steps with the pastor for a special message just for them.

Activity bags with books, crayons, and coloring sheets are available in the back of church.

Nursery

Child care is available in the church nursery for children age 4 and under during both worship services and the 9:45am Education Hour.  Ask an usher or the building host at the reception desk for directions to the nursery.

Sunday School, Confirmation, Teens

Faith formation classes for children and youth meet every Sunday morning at 9:45am. These include Sunday School (for children age 3 – 4th grade), Pre-Confirmation and Confirmation classes (5th – 8th grade), and Teen Talk for high school students.

Families

Parents and children gather for Family Fun Fridays throughout the school year. And kids and parents are an important part of all-congregation events such as the annual Church-School picnic and Oktoberfest.

The Grace Church family includes many families whose children attend neighborhood public schools as well as Grace Lutheran School. Service projects, confirmation retreats, mission trips,Family Fun Fridays, lock-ins, and other activities offer opportunities for students from different school communities to work and learn together at Grace Church.

Adult Education hour

Adult Education classes meet at 9:45am on Sunday mornings throughout the school year and on many Sundays during the summer.  Topics include theology, scripture, social justice issues, spirituality, family life, and vocation.

Classes are led by Grace members, along with guests from the community, various organizations and local colleges, universities and seminaries. Coffee and lively conversation are a vital part of the experience.

Current class schedule

Sunday morning Bible study

In addition to Adult Ed classes, a Bible study group meets every Sunday morning at 9:45am in Grace's lower level conference room. The group is currently working its way through books of the Old Testament.
