Prayer of the Day
Teach us, good Lord God, to serve you as you deserve, to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for reward, except that of knowing that we do your will, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Romans 6:1b-11

Sermon
"Found by Life"
Matthew 10:24-39
But wait, there’s more! Last week, Jesus painted a stark picture of what it looks like to be his disciple. Today, we hear that Jesus comes not with peace, but a sword. Not to create familial harmony, but discord. That doesn’t feel right, until we remember that we already live with constant violence and that the human family is already deeply divided. Jesus calls us to account, and the way forward includes hard work. To work for peace will be a struggle. To stand for unity will cause division in the short term. As we work, we find peace and unity as gifts given by God. When we lose our life in the work of the gospel, we discover that we have already been found by God’s grace.
