Holy Communion at 8:30 and 11am
Prayer of the Day
Almighty God, gracious Lord, we thank you that your Holy Spirit renews the church in every age. Pour out your Holy Spirit on your faithful people. Keep them steadfast in your word, protect and comfort them in times of trial, defend them against all enemies of the gospel, and bestow on the church your saving peace, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Sermon
"Always Being Set Free"
John 8:31-36
Jesus is in Jerusalem. The people are celebrating the Festival of Booths, remembering when they journeyed through the wilderness from slavery in Egypt to the freedom of the Promised Land. Speaking with the people of Jerusalem, Jesus reframes this part of their history. Yes, the people left Egypt, but they did not leave slavery behind. They are beset both by outside forces and by their own sin. But just as God tabernacled with the people, leading them to freedom, so does God in Christ make a home with the people on their journey to true freedom. This freedom does not come from a place on a map or with a set of knowledge. It is the freedom that comes from knowing and being known by Jesus Christ, crucified and raised. To know Jesus is to continue to follow him as he, in each moment of our journey, unbinds our chains and sets us free.
