Prayer of the Day
Stir up the wills of your faithful people, Lord God, and open our ears to the words of your prophets, that, anointed by your Spirit, we may testify to your light; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Scripture readings
Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11
Psalm 126
1 Thessalonians 5:16-24
John 1:6-8, 19-28

Sermon
Text: John 1:6-8, 19-28
Throughout our Gospel reading, John continuously claims who he is not. He is not the Messiah.  He is not Elijah, nor the prophet.  He is not worthy.  When John does state who he is, he quotes Scripture.  It is in the Scriptures that John finds his purpose and his identity as "the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord.'"  What Scriptures speak to our own identity this Advent season?  How does knowing who we are not help us know who we truly are?

Making Sense of the Christian Faith: God con Carne
Pastor Dave Wegner
Seminar Room
Today the Incarnation seems about as scandalous as fruitcake, but in the fourth and fifth centuries, no issue more divided Christians than the assertion that almighty God had been joined to frail and fickle human flesh. By probing three early objections to the Incarnation we can better understand its startling assertions about the scandalous lengths to which God will go to redeem us.

The Sunday morning Bible study group meets in the lower-level conference room.

The Grace Church Library is open and staffed on Sundays from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Look for books related to Adult Ed topics as well as many other subjects. The library is also open for self-service during the week.
