"The Full-Time Kingdom"
Mark 1:14-20
If Jesus ever gave any introductory remarks, Mark wasn’t interested in recording them. Today we hear the first words out of Jesus’ mouth. He has no interest in building up to his point, no time for slow-burning oratory. He doesn’t even begin at the beginning, but at the end: “The time is fulfilled.” Now is the fullness. Now is the Kingdom. Now is the time to repent and believe. This announcement is both universal and particular, as we see in the next verses. This now comes to Simon and Andrew, to James and John. Will they follow as part of Jesus’ fishing expedition? Or will they cling to the old nets that bind them? This calls comes to us anew today, now. Caught up in Christ, we follow.
