Sermon
"Sheer Silence:
Where is God in all of this? In the midst of spiking cases of COVID-19, anxiety related to the opening of schools, ongoing calls for racial and social justice, and so much else, it’s a fair question. Our texts today give us lenses through which to find an answer. Like Elijah, we may feel afraid and exhausted. Like Peter, we might feel battered by the wind and rain. Like Jesus, we might just want to get away for a while. God meets us in these moments. The Lord gives peace to Elijah. Jesus lifts Peter up. Jesus, connected to his Father in prayer, returns to save us and give us what we need. Where is God? God is with us in the silence, restoring our faith in the midst of this world’s noisy storms.
