Prayer of the Day
Everlasting God, in your endless love for the human race you sent our Lord Jesus Christ to take on our nature and to suffer death on the cross. In your mercy enable us to share in his obedience to your will and in the glorious victory of his resurrection, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Sermon
"Forsaken"
Matthew 27:11-54; Philippians 2:5-1
This Sunday begins with shouts of “Hosanna!” The crowds cry out in praise of the Son of David. Within a few short days, their voices have gone silent. We hear a lone voice from the cross. Jesus, surrounded but utterly alone, cries out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” In Matthew’s telling of the story, these words are Jesus’ last. Rejected by the people he came to save, he feels that even the God who sent him has forgotten him. But in the paradox of our faith, it is in our Lord’s forsakenness that we receive the promise to never again be forgotten. In these days we are alone, cut off, isolated. And we are mortal, sinful, lost. Precisely there, Jesus joins us. For Jesus’ sake, God will not forsake us.
