Holy Communion at 8:30 and 11am

Prayer of the Day
Everlasting God, you have wonderfully established the ministries of angels and mortals. Mercifully grant that as Michael and the angels contend against the cosmic forces of evil, so by your direction they may help and defend us here on earth, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God whom we worship and praise with angels and archangels and all the company of heaven, now and forever. Amen.

Daniel 10:10-14; Daniel 12:1-3

Luke 10:17-20

Sermon
"Peace in God’s Time"
Luke 10:17-20; Revelation 12:7-12
“War broke out in heaven.” On this festival day for Michael and All Angels, we see in a vision the rebellious warfare that goes beyond our earth and seeks to encroach even upon the throne of God. But Michael, archangel and general of the heavenly forces, fights back against Satan and the forces of evil. Their triumph, however, is won not through their angelic might, but by the blood of the Lamb. The angels are invited to fight a war that has already been won for them by Christ on his cross. The same is true for us. Satan, in his death throes, continues to rage. But he has already lost. Our names are forever written in the Book of Life, and they are written in the indelible ink of Jesus’ blood. We, like the 70 who were sent forth in Luke 10, are invited to push back against the forces of evil and death. We are invited to live in the life that has been gifted to us.

Faithful Living and Joyful Giving:  Surprisingly Good News about "Stewardship"

Mark Allan Powell, Professor of New Testament, Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio

What the Bible actually teaches about stewardship — time, talents, and treasures —  is surprisingly good news! With good humor and a high degree of self-disclosure, Bible scholar Mark Allan Powell traces his journey from being a notoriously bad steward who hated the church’s annual “fund-drives” to discovering the biblical pathway “from duty to delight.” Simply put, biblical stewardship is about enjoying a closer, more joyful relationship with our God. As presented in the Bible, stewardship is not just about fund-raising: it is a way of life–and for many of us, it just might be the way to a better life! (Seminar Room)

The Sunday morning Bible study group meets in the conference room.
