Bountiful God, you gather your people into your realm, and you promise us food from your tree of life. Amen.

In today’s Gospel reading we are given Jesus’ response to a question from Judas (not Iscariot) about how it is that Jesus will reveal himself once he is gone from the disciples’ sight. Jesus promises that his Father will send the Advocate, the Spirit of truth, to teach and remind the disciples—and us—about everything he has spoken. By the Spirit’s power we are given the gift of faith to love the word of God and keep it, until that day when Christ shall come again and fulfill a kingdom that is not of this world. In the reading from Revelation we are given a vision of that kingdom, where the “throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him; they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.” The Church’s worship, led by the Holy Spirit, is an earthly foretaste of the kingdom that is to come.
