O God of life, you reach out to us amid our fears with the wounded hands of your risen Son. Sermon
"Jesus Doesn't Stop There"
John 20:19-31
Easter Sunday has come and gone, but Easter isn't over! The tomb is empty, but resurrection isn't over! This morning we hear how the risen Jesus appears to his disciples in a locked room, showing them his hands and his side, giving them something to hold onto and believe in. When Thomas expresses the need to see and feel the proof of resurrection for himself, Jesus comes a separate time to dispel his doubt. Jesus doesn't stop at being raised from the dead; he continues to come to us and give us something to hold onto. In the gift of baptism, Jesus draws near to us in water and Word to claim us for life. In the gift of Holy Communion, Jesus shows us his body and blood, feeding us with his life to take away our death. The story of the risen Jesus showing up in our own lives continues today and every day. Easter is far from over!
