Prayer of the Day
Almighty God, gracious Lord, we thank you that your Holy Spirit renews the church in every age. Pour out your Holy Spirit on your faithful people. Keep them steadfast in your word, protect and comfort them in times of trial, defend them against all enemies of the gospel, and bestow on the church your saving peace, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Sermon
"A Reforming Fortress"
John 8:31-36, Psalm 46
Foaming waters and trembling mountains. Raging nations and shaking kingdoms. We are beset by challenges without, by sin and brokenness within. Into this, God speaks: “Be still, then, and know that I am God.” We are so trapped that sometimes we can’t even see it. We imagine we’re free. Jesus, God’s Word, speaks: “Everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin.” Be still and listen. And then, be set free! The great truth of the Reformation is the truth of the whole faith: Jesus is freedom, and freely gifts it to you. As this world rages on, you have the freedom to be still. And you have the freedom to join God’s reforming work in the world. As the world swirls and moves, we are with God, the refuge and strength who protects even as God remakes the world.
