Sermon
As Jesus sends out seventy disciples in pairs to various towns and villages, he instructs them in what to bring, whom to greet, what to say, and what to eat. But even with these parameters set, there’s a lot of openness and grace in the message these disciples carry with them. They bring peace. They announce that the kingdom of God is near! Even though they are sent out “like lambs into the midst of wolves,” they do not react negatively to those who might denounce their message. They continue to carry Christ's peace, and they continue to point to God's kingdom. When Jesus sends us out, there might indeed be specifics to our call and our message. But always and no matter what, we speak peace. Always and no matter what, we proclaim the kingdom. Always and no matter what, we carry the grace of Christ to others, which knows no limits or bounds or parameters.
