Holy Communion at 8:30 and 11am
Prayer of the Day
Lord God, our strength, the struggle between good and evil rages within and around us, and the devil and all the forces that defy you tempt us with empty promises. Keep us steadfast in your word, and when we fall, raise us again and restore us through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

"Eyes Wide Shut"
Genesis 2:15-17, 3:1-7; Matthew 4:1-11
The serpent’s voice is seductive. It whispers in our souls, “You will not die. You can be like God, knowing good and evil.” Like Adam and Eve, we bite into the fruit and our eyes are opened. We see the difference between good and evil, but we choose evil. All God wanted was for us to trust that God is sufficient, that what God creates and provides is good. We wanted to see more but our opened eyes led to blindness. Into this situation comes Jesus, struggling not with a serpent but with Satan. In the wilderness, Jesus undoes our sin. Where once we doubted the sufficiency of God, Jesus puts his full faith in God’s willingness, ability, and power. As Jesus defeats Satan, our vision narrows. We don’t need to see good and evil. We simply need to look to Jesus, and trust that he will lead us to the good.
