Prayer of the Day
Almighty God, your Son came into the world to free us all from sin and death. Breathe upon us the power of your Spirit, that we may be raised to new life in Christ and serve you in righteousness all our days, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Sermon

"Can These Bones Live?"
Ezekiel 37:1-14; John 11:1-45
Everywhere we look, things are quieter. Traffic has slowed, streets have emptied. As the shadow of COVID-19 grows longer, our fears and anxieties increase. What will happen? How long will this go on? How bad will it be? We stand, in a sense, with Ezekiel as he looks over the valley of the dry bones. The Lord asks the question that was already in Ezekiel’s heart: “Can these bones live?” Can these dry, dusty, dead bones come back to life? Can we? Ezekiel gives the only possible answer: “O Lord God, you know.” In the face of death and despair, God is the only one to whom we can turn. Turning, we see what God can do. Bones join to sinew, enfleshed and alive again. In this power, Jesus calls forth Lazarus from the tomb. It all foreshadows what Jesus is about to do: die, and be raised. Can these bones live? Will we? Jesus knows, and the answer is yes. Even should we die, we will live.
