Prayer of the Day
O God, on this day you revealed your Son to the nations by the leading of a star. Lead us now by faith to know your presence in our lives, and bring us at last to the full vision of your glory, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Sermon

"What Do You Get for the God Who Has Everything?"
Isaiah 60:1-6, Matthew 2:1-12
Arise, shine! Matthew tells the familiar story of the wise men who did exactly that, following an evening star in search of the newborn Morning Star. Upon entering the house, they kneel down and pay homage to King Jesus (which they did not do for King Herod). Gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh are given. These are gifts fit for a king and perhaps are meant to convey allegorical hints about Jesus’ identity. But they are gifts without much utility or purpose in the moment. So what shall we give to Jesus? Bach has the bass sing the answer: “But what shall I bring, you king of heaven? If my heart is not too little, then accept it with grace, for I can bring nothing more noble.” In Jesus, the God who has everything is now the God who has given everything; all God desires in return is for your heart to find faith in Christ.
