Sermon
"Buried Treasure"
Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52
True wisdom begins with the acknowledgement that that we have none; true strength emerges when we see how weak we are. Offered anything he wanted, Solomon was wise enough to know he needed wisdom. Too weak even to pray, Paul lets the Holy Spirit lift him up. The world tells us that we can find what we need within ourselves, but our readings today proclaim that what we need is hidden elsewhere, a priceless treasure hidden in the earth. True life begins where it ended for Jesus, the One buried in the earth for our sake. We are invited to give up everything else and to put our faith in Christ, the Word of God from whom comes wisdom in our confusion and power in our weakness.
