Easter Sunday
Resurrection of Our Lord
Holy Communion at 8:30 and 11am
Prayer of the Day
O God, you gave your only Son to suffer death on the cross for our redemption, and by his glorious resurrection you delivered us from the power of death. Make us die every day to sin, that we may live with him forever in the joy of the resurrection, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Sermon
It begins in darkness, with grief too new to be yet dulled. Contemplating the task ahead of them, the women can barely hope to move the stone in order to anoint the body. They certainly aren’t hoping to hear good news. What good news could there be following Jesus’ death? And yet the young man, perhaps an angel, tells them to not be alarmed; Jesus is not here. He has been raised! Is there any wonder that Mark’s story ends not with joy and celebration but in fear and silence? For who can believe such good news? The stones in front of the tombs are just too heavy. For us, that is, but not for God. The stone is rolled away. Christ is alive - and in him you live, too. Alleluia!
