Sermon
"The Might of a Mite"
Mark 12:38-44
The widow gave to the temple treasury at a higher percentage than those who were rich. The widow has long been lifted up as a paragon of stewardship and a model of giving. In truth, though, we are rarely drawn to emulate people we don’t want to be – and who wants to be a poor, disenfranchised, widowed woman in the first century? Jesus invites a hard look at how we actually don’t want to be like the widow at all: both because we don’t want to be her and because to help her might demand the kind of sacrifice she herself demonstrated. This narrative is not about us being more like the widow in our giving. It is about being more like the widow in her living.

Reflections on Vocation
Kristin Vogen, Pam Todd, James Claud
The vocation or calling of every Christian is “to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, to serve all people following the example of Jesus, and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth.” In these two sessions, Grace members reflect on their work and on what vocation means to them.
The Sunday morning Bible study group meets in the conference room.
