The 200 x 250 foot piece of God’s green earth on which Grace sits was purchased from Concordia Teachers College on February 2, 1929 for $20,000 ($300,000 in today’s dollars). Ground for Grace Church was broken on October 13, 1929, the cornerstone was laid November 10, 1929, and the church was completed and dedicated on February 8, 1931, at a cost of approximately $200,000 ($3,000,000 in today’s dollars). Of note, the stock market crashed on October 28, 1929, and did not begin to recover until March 15, 1933. Grace weathered the storm and next March will mark the 90th anniversary of the original building's completion.
